Tony Cowell chats to Amelia Mist

-

Amelia Mist joined MadeinChelsea last year, and has since become a cast favourite. Once dubbed the ‘Bridget Jones’ of the show for being so unlucky in love, 21-year-old Amelia reveals exclusively to best that she has a (secret) new boyfriend. She also opens up about the recent split of fellow MIC newbie and best friend, Verity Bowditch, from Tristan Phipps – and why being on the hit reality show has helped her discover a brand-new confidence…

Hi, you’re looking fabulous. Are you on a new fitness regime?!

Oh, thank you. I’ve just cut out the binge drinking and eating, and tried to be as healthy as possible. I’ve been doing a lot of long walks, too. I’ve been vegan for a long time, I think that has helped.

You and fellow MIC cast member Verity spent lockdown together in Dorset. How was that?

Yes, we did – we live 10 minutes away from each other, so it was nice to spend some time together. It was a good time to get out of London, too. In a way, I think lockdown was good for me. I had time to re-evaluate my life – to understand what my purpose is. It’s not just all about socialising, which is why I started cooking, and decided to make a new podcast.

How is Verity doing now, following her recent split from Tristan (Phipps)?

She’s fine. They definitely were not right for each other – Verity is too freespirited, and Tristan was too controlling. I am so happy to see her happy and back to her old self.

You joined Made in Chelsea last year, and fans have really taken to you. But they are all desperate for you to find a partner...

Fans of the show have been lovely, and my big news is that I recently got a new boyfriend. So, fans have finally got what they wanted. I absolutely love the show and it’s been so good to me; but I was desperate to come out of my bubble a bit – show people that I’m not just this quiet, slightly awkward girl. Now, I’m ready.

Will we be seeing this boyfriend on the new series, then?

He may make an appearance – he’s a little bit older than me, and I’m not sure his job will allow him to be on the show. But I am determined to get him on there. So, wait and see!

When you first joined, you called yourself the ‘Bridget Jones’ of the show – why?

My mum first came up with that, because she thought I was a bit unlucky in love when I was at school, and the boys I met weren’t exactly nice to me. But, in some ways, I’ve always been quite content to be on my own and I never actually felt the need to be with anyone just for the sake of it. And when I see what happened with Verity… I just get angry and feel the need to protect her. I can’t stand there and watch her get hurt.

How has your life changed since you joined MIC?

It’s changed massively, because it allowed me to make something of my life. I am an ambassador for an ocean clean-up charity, I have started my own music podcast, which was one of my dreams. I love my music and want to do more in the future. It has helped me in so many ways – for that, I feel extremely lucky.

Do you feel as if you are now a part of the family?

Definitely. It’s my job now and I want to use it for the greater good by using the platform the show has very kindly given me.

My parents weren’t the biggest fans of me doing this show, initially, but they are very supportive of the way things are now.

You joined along with your pal, Freddie Browne – will he back on the next series too?

I hope so, yes. Freddie is one of my closest friends. People always thought we should have gotten together, but we are simply great friends. There was one moment, some time ago, when I thought maybe we should get together – but I thought better of it, and now I have a boyfriend and I’m in a happy place, so I’d rather keep Freddie as a guy friend!

You put a blank square on social media for Black Out Tuesday (a protest against radical inequality). Tell us why...

Well, what was happening in the world made me furious. But there are so many issues going on across the globe right now. Any small thing I can do to help, by using my platform to raise awareness, I will – it’s the very reason I joined

MIC. I would love to see equality for everyone – to see real change. Amelia’s Music Jam Sesh podcast is on spreaker.com MIC is back later this year
