‘Welcome to the latest edition of… THE BLAME GAME! The competition was fierce, all in line for a lashing were young people, university students, certain protesters, big families – in fact, anyone who can see no sense in the new regulations (laws) which is basically everyone, except, of course, the government.
But the winner of this week’s bucketfull of blame went to BOOZERS!
So, all pubs, restaurants and clubs must close at 10pm to “prevent the spread” of infections. Even though new data out last week showed that only three per cent of all new cases were down to the hospitality sector.
But let’s just ignore that and impose insane measures anyway, ones that have since been proven to cause more problems than they’re supposed to solve. Problems that anyone with half a brain could have seen coming. Except, of course, the government, again.
And as before, these knee-jerk, bungled responses will almost certainly not be relaxed or reversed but strengthened, because it can never accept it gets anything wrong.
So, in the coming days/weeks I’ll expect a total shutdown of all social activity, and all hospitality establishments – the same pubs, restaurants and clubs that have worked tirelessly and spent money they can ill-afford, to comply with the tsunami of regulations in order to reopen safely – will be forced to close, again.
It’s temporary, they’ll say, but as we’ve learned, it seldom is. Which will mean that those same establishments will, more than likely, never open again.’
