Susanna: ‘Feeling agoraphobic’ Aren’t we all? The silent pandemic

GMB presenter Susanna Reid has admitted to feelings a lot of us will identify with – she gets ‘overwhelmed’ outside the house by the closeness of others and just wants to get home!

There were probably a lot of people at home nodding their heads in agreement when Good MorningBritain host Susanna Reid revealed that she feels a tad ‘overwhelmed’ when she leaves her home.

The presenter, who lives with her three sons in London, explained that it was due to the amount of people out and about, making it difficult for her to keep a social distance.

Susanna shared her anxiety with co-host Piers Morgan on their morning show – and, no doubt, it’s something many of us can relate to, particularly those in crowded towns and cities.

‘I’ve found myself getting a little bit agoraphobic at the moment because when you go out, there’s so many people around, you’re trying to maintain your social distance and people are just too close,’ she confessed.

And viewers took to Twitter to agree with the 50-year-old.

One wrote, ‘I think we will have a huge issue with people’s perception of personal space and anxiety levels due to this.’

Another said, ‘People are no longer obeying the rules – too much variation, it needs to go back to a hard lockdown for a month… I understand how hard it would be on certain individuals, but it is the only way the minority will listen.’

Another viewer wrote, ‘This isn’t even a lockdown like the first time. People are everywhere. You should see how many people are travelling on buses. Not to go to work or shopping. Just meeting up with friends or going to another town for a day out. They even tell you this.’

Susanna went on to talk about when London, like many parts of Britain, got an unexpected ‘snow day’: ‘Of course there was the light relief of snow and plenty of people were out and enjoying it, and it would be curmudgeonly to say anything other than, thank goodness for a little break, a little respite.’

But even then, the presenters added, we need to be careful – as they shared a snap of a worryingly overcrowded Primrose Hill, full of people enjoying the white stuff, but some failing to keep a safe distance.

Said Piers, ‘I don’t think the virus got the memos of the respite. Do it, go out, exercise, get fresh air, but don’t forget the rules.’
