Beauty: Try a new trend!
New season, new look? Freshen up your beauty routine
From simple make-up swaps to quick body-boosters, there’s a whole world of beauty buys awaiting you this Spring. Here’s how to make the latest trends work for you…
1 GLOW ON DEMAND
WHY A luminous base is more youthful than a matte one, which is why we’re happy to wave goodbye to that (socialmedia inspired) look and say hello to a gleaming glow.
TRY An illuminating primer adds a lightweight veil of luminosity. Often formulated with radiance-boosting pink pigments (for pale skin tones) or gold (for darker skin tones), layer the primer under foundation and dust face powder lightly over oily areas to take down any excess shine.
BUY Barry M Fresh Face Illuminating Primer, £6.99; Body Collection Illuminating Primer, £3; NYX Professional Makeup Honey Dew Me Up! Primer, £15.
2 SUPER-CHARGED BODY LOTIONS
WHY It was only a matter of time before active ingredients such as retinol and vitamin C that we use in facial serums found their way into body care. Wrinkles, pigmentation and loss of elasticity aren’t exclusive to the skin above our necks!
TRY Often not as hydrating as their non-active counterparts, if you find you need more moisture, alternate your actives-based body lotion with a buttery balm or oil.
BUY The Solution Retinol Smoothing Body Lotion, £9.99; Boots Vitamin C Brightening Body Serum, £4; Revolution AHA Smoothing Intense Moisture Lotion, £8.
3 NAIL POLISH WITH BENEFITS
WHY The condition of our nails is becoming just as important as the latest colour. Expect to see more hybrid polishes loaded with strengthening and growth-stimulating proteins and minerals, so the more you use them, the more resilient and healthier your nails will become.
TRY Striking red and pink (the brighter the better) are the colours this season. Keep your nail length short and slightly square at the tip; this gives your mani a cooler, clean-looking edge.
BUY Nails.Inc Plant Power Vegan Polish in And Breathe and Ciaté Plant Pot in Snatch, £10.
4 SIGNATURE SCENT
WHY Experts are predicting we’ll want comfort when it comes to new season scents. Gourmand scents, with notes of caramel, vanilla and chocolate, are just the tonic for a feel-good boost. The latest are paired with florals, such as jasmine and tuberose, or sharp citrus ingredients to create a sophisticated spritz.
TRY If you’re not used to gourmand perfumes, they can feel quite striking to begin with, so start by spritzing on the inside of elbows or wrists until you’ve settled into wearing them. BUY Jimmy Choo I WANT CHOO EDP, from £45; Issey Miyake Nectar d’Issey Cush Cush EDP, £27; Zara Rose Marshmallow Candy EDT, £12.99.
5 A NEW FOCUS
WHY Face coverings have made our eyes the stars of the show. Wearing colourful eye make-up adds playfulness and personality to our everyday look, and taps into the catwalk trend for zingy colours. TRY Apply eyeliner to the upper lash line over a neutral base such as cream, beige or mink. The bolder colours make a focal point, with no need for blending. BUY Barry M Hi Vis Bold Waterproof Eyeliner in Dangerous, £3.99; 3INA The Color Pen Eyeliner in 759. £12.95; NYX Professional Makeup Slide on Pencil in Azure, £5.50.
6 CARING COLOUR
WHY From high street to high end, a host of tinted lip balms are coming your way. They add a lovely wash of colour, are super hydrating and nourishing, and are less messy under masks than glosses and many lipsticks. Great if your lips tend to be dry, too. TRY Gently exfoliate lips with a soft toothbrush to slough away dry, flaky patches before applying your tinted balm, so the conditioning ingredients in it can get to work. BUY Honest Beauty Tinted Lip Balm in Blood Orange, £10; e.l.f. Ride Or Die Lip Balm in Tough Cookie, £5; Dr.PAWPAW Tinted Peach Pink Balm, £6.95.
