CRAZY CARBON CONCEPT

-

Crazy carbon-fibre concept from the Netherlands, built by brothers Sjors and Rolf Van der Heide. It’s got a Fior double wishbone front end, with both front and rear shocks arranged inline between the rider’s legs. The front starts at the top of the tank and compresses downwards, while the rear compresses upwards. Sjors reckons he can replicate the front end dive of a traditional telescopic fork arrangement, or cancel it out completely. Rake can be changed with one bolt and an Allen key, instead of the complete rebuild usually needed by race teams riding trad set-ups. The monocoque chassis is all handmoulded carbon fibre with sixteen layers of lacquer. The whole thing weighs 175kg. The engine is from an Aprilia RSV4. ‘Production’ will be limited to 25 units, with prices starting at 150,000 Euros. No takers so far when we called by the stand.

‘Italian scooter racing is a hilarious, wheelie-filled pastime where all ages win races, from 15 to 50. Cheap, too’
