Aprilia Shiver 900
More cubes, increased grunt and refreshed styling – second time lucky for the V-twin?
Aprilia’s Shiver 750 was the first production bike in the world to use ride-by-wire technology. It was solid and usable, the properly-proportioned chassis steadfast, and it looked good too. However the Italian offering never made an impact here in the UK. So it’s take two with the new Shiver 900. Capacity for the drastically oversquare V-twin is up to 896cc, with a claimed 95bhp and a big torque improvement to 66 lb.ft. That’s more grunt than Yamaha’s thrusting MT 09. There’s an A2 licence version too. New 41mm Kayaba forks weigh 500g less and hang from forged aluminium yokes. Styling is given a once-over, and there’s the dash off the RSV4 sportsbike. As before the Shiver also provides the base for a supermoto-style Dorsoduro variant, sharing the same engine and similar upgrades for 2017.
