When you drop a nut, bolt or washer into the murky depths beneath the carbs or, god forbid, down a cylinder, you need one of these. Suddenly all is not lost, and a bit of fishing usually produces that thrilling ‘click’ which means something has stuck to the magnet. The crucial bit is the magnet’s strength, not because you need to lift anything heavy, but so it can attract its target from further away. Mine is a non-branded cheapie that’s over ten years old so I’ve forgotten where I got it.
