» Now then boys, how are we? Tom: I’m 95%. Tim: I’m not doing too bad, 60%. It was the best year ever until four weeks ago. Leading the Superstock championship, then we went to Knockhill for a test and the handlebar snapped, jammed the front brake on, I went over the handlebar at about 120 mile an hour and smashed my pelvis.

» So what’s next for you Tim? Tim: I had to have an operation on my pelvis, they put two screws in my sacrum and then a bar going across the full width of my pelvis to stabilize it. I feel like it’s well on its way to healing and I just had my first gym session today with Tom. I can’t walk, but I had 45 minutes on the push bike.

» What about you Tom, first year in Superbikes, and first with Honda, which must bring some pressure?

Tom: Start of the season was good, with three-points finishes at Silverstone, I’d take that all day long. It spiralled since then, but we are back on track now with 13th and 14th on Sunday at Knockhill. I’m just going for point scoring finishes for now.

» You’ve both worked hard to get here though haven’t you? Tim: We’re just two farm lads and you can’t do it on your own. You need a special group of people that believe in you. You (Boastie) literally took me to my first race.

Tom: Grandad and Uncle Tim our are biggest supporters really, and without Phil Crowe I would never have gone road racing. Tim: Guy (Martin) helped us later, but it wasn’t easy to get his support. He had me round his house at 4.30am cleaning tractor windows in the dark to prove how much we wanted it.

Tom: When we moved on to Superstock he helped us get the bikes. He got me going, 100% got me noticed. That’s when Honda got in touch with me on the back of that. You never know how it’s going to work out, but things fall into line. And what’s the alternative? You get up at 7am and feed the cows.
