Lough (Northum­ber­land) through­out while fur­ther sin­gles ap­peared at Stan­wick GP (Northants) on 4th and Tory Island (Co. Done­gal) on 14th. A first-sum­mer Bon­a­parte’s Gull took up res­i­dence on the Wans­beck Es­tu­ary north of Ash­ing­ton (Northum­ber­land) through­out June, while an adult Gull-billed Tern ar­rived at Kin­neil La­goons, Grange­mouth (Cen­tral Re­gion) on 4th, re­main­ing in­ter­mit­tently un­til at least 20th, vis­it­ing Se­ton Sands, Ed­in­burgh, on 12th. A fur­ther Gull-billed Tern was seen at Ham Wall RSPB (Som­er­set) on 5th, while the Caspian Tern pair seen in Avon in May re­lo­cated to the Lin­colnshire coast, vis­it­ing Gi­bral­tar Point NNR from 13th-18th. The Swedish-ringed male of the pair also vis­ited Brey­don Wa­ter (Nor­folk) from 19th-22nd be­fore re­turn­ing to Gi­bral­tar Point on 23rd. A highly mo­bile White-winged Black Tern vis­ited Con­nah’s Quay and Bur­ton Mere Wet­lands RSPB (Cl­wyd/cheshire) on 17th, Martin Mere WWT (Lancs) on 18th and Loch of Strath­beg RSPB (Aberdeen­shire) on 22nd while a Whiskered Tern re­mained at Trim­ley Marshes SWT (Suf­folk) from 8th-10th. On the Isle of Port­land (Dorset), the first-sum­mer Great Spot­ted Cuckoo con­tin­ued to delight ad­mir­ers un­til 18th. Alpine Swifts were sighted on St Mary’s (Scilly) on 5th and at Point of Fethard, NNE of North Roe (Shet­land) on 26th, with 20 or so Bee-eaters ei­ther seen or heard, in­clud­ing a party of three on wires near Holswor­thy at Den­ton (Devon) on 22nd. A singing male red-spot­ted Bluethroat was on territory in Strath­spey (High­land) from 1st-8th, with a fe­male mak­ing a very un­usual ap­pear­ance Dal­ma­tian Pel­i­can, Corn­wall, June

Caspian Tern, Brey­don Wa­ter, Nor­folk, 25 June at Ness Point, Low­est­oft (Suf­folk) on 26th, while even more ex­tra­or­di­nary was a male Pied Wheatear along Wilm­ing­ham Lane, Fresh­wa­ter (Isle of Wight) on 14th. A sin­gle Barred War­bler was seen on Unst (Shet­land) in mid June, with reel­ing male Savi’s War­blers at Overy Dunes (Nor­folk) from 22nd-25th and Strump­shaw Fen RSPB (Nor­folk) from 27th-30th. A scat­ter­ing of Marsh War­blers in­cluded three in Suf­folk; a singing male Blyth’s Reed War­bler was at Rye Har­bour NR (East Sus­sex) from 17th-18th, and a Pad­dy­field War­bler was at Mire Loch, St Abb’s Head (Borders) on 5th. The long-stay­ing male Great Reed War­bler at Pax­ton Pits NR (Cambs) re­mained, singing un­til 16th while an­other was at Wa­ter’s Edge NR, Bar­ton-on-hum­ber (Lincs) on 5th. Sev­eral Ic­ter­ine War­blers in­clud­ing a singing male on territory at Lag­gan (High­land) from 1st-21st and Green­ish War­blers at The Naze (Es­sex) on 4th and Skaw, Whal­say (Shet­land) on 5th. About 27 Red-backed Shrikes were logged in June, with Wood­chat Shrikes at Great Hill near Dorch­ester (Dorset) from 10th-13th and at St Abb’s Head (Borders) from 19th-21st, the only Rose­c­oloured Star­ling in­volv­ing an adult in Cadding­ton Vil­lage (Beds) on 1st-5th and Golden Ori­oles at Kilnsea/spurn (East Yorks) on 6th and 13th-15th and on Fair Isle on 15th. A White-throated Spar­row was at Vaul, Tiree (Ar­gyll) on 10th. Up to five Serins were at Hod­combe, Beachy Head (East Sus­sex) from 1st-21st, a singing male Com­mon Rosefinch was at Rose­markie (High­land) from 6th-10th and a male Black-headed Bunt­ing at a gar­den feed­ing sta­tion on Skye at Gal­t­rig­ill (High­land) from 11th-13th. A Rus­tic Bunt­ing vis­ited the Isle of May (Fife) on 18th.
