Bird Watching (UK)

KEY POINTS

-

1 Park in the large car park provided in Tobermory. Check for gulls in the harbour and even Otters, as tame ones can occur. Also, check the spire of the church for a Peregrine. 2 Walk to the end of the street and just to the left of the Kilchoan ferry you will see the footpath heading to the lighthouse. This path can be wet in places. 3 Check the varied tree species for breeding and passage birds. It is nice to see so many Wych Elms after disease has removed them from most of Britain. Their seeds attract Bullfinches and Red Squirrels. 4 Coming out of the trees gives you great views of the Sound of Mull and the chance of some of the Ravens that live along these cliffs. Check the birds on the rocks by the lighthouse for passage gulls. 5 The steps up to the golf course are worn in places so take care. Once up on the heights check the gorse and bracken for chats. Keep to the edge of the course and scan for wagtails and pipits.
