QCan you ID this bird for me please? I think it’s a fe­male Pied Fly­catcher, although I orig­i­nally thought maybe slightly rarer Col­lared Fly­catcher. I ruled out Spot­ted due to white tail feath­ers. Paul Stevens

AThe first thing to con­cen­trate on with this bird is its struc­ture, rather than go­ing straight for the plumage details. It looks to be an elon­gate, bird with quite a long, broad-based, pale-based bill, which im­me­di­ately sug­gests Spot­ted Fly­catcher. The wings are long and the tail quite long. Plumage wise, there ap­pears to be some spot­ting or streaking, which points to­ward ju­ve­nile Spot­ted Fly­catcher rather than the smaller Ficedula species. We think it is a Spot­ted with an odd tail pat­tern, but would love to see more pho­tos.
