CAN YOU ID THIS FLYCATCHER?

-

QCan you ID this bird for me please? I think it’s a female Pied Flycatcher, although I originally thought maybe slightly rarer Collared Flycatcher. I ruled out Spotted due to white tail feathers. Paul Stevens

AThe first thing to concentrate on with this bird is its structure, rather than going straight for the plumage details. It looks to be an elongate, bird with quite a long, broad-based, pale-based bill, which immediately suggests Spotted Flycatcher. The wings are long and the tail quite long. Plumage wise, there appears to be some spotting or streaking, which points toward juvenile Spotted Flycatcher rather than the smaller Ficedula species. We think it is a Spotted with an odd tail pattern, but would love to see more photos.
