LE­ICES­TER­SHIRE

Bird Watching (UK) - - Uk Bird Sightings August -

HIGH­LIGHTS:

A White-winged Black Tern graced Water­mead CP (21st-22nd). A Gan­net at Thorn­ton Reser­voir (21st-26th) sadly died.

CHARNWOOD:

Crop­ston Reser­voir had a Marsh Har­rier (29th), six Green­shanks (28th), six Green Sand­pipers (28th), six Common Sand­pipers (21st), a Med Gull (14th), four Black Terns (28th) and four Red­starts (21st). A Marsh Har­rier flew over Charnwood Lodge (14th).

EYEBROOK RESER­VOIR:

Waders in­cluded four Ruff (15th), a Lit­tle Stint (18th-20th), four Green­shanks (19th) and six Black-tailed God­wits (9th). A Marsh Har­rier was seen reg­u­larly (1st-19th). There was a Great White Egret (6th), Black Tern (28th) and two Whin­chats (27th).

SOAR VAL­LEY:

A Marsh Har­rier flew over Sys­ton (10th). Coss­ing­ton Mead­ows had a Gar­ganey (21st) and Green­shank (30th). Ten Green Sand­pipers were at Wan­lip Mead­ows (13th), along with a Ruff (17th) and Green­shank (14th-17th).

OTHER SITES:

There were 33 Yel­low-legged Gulls at Al­bert Vil­lage Lake. A Marsh Har­rier was at Shawell (28th). A Pied Fly­catcher was on Croft Hill (21st). At least 10 mi­grant Red­starts passed through five sites. Steve Lis­ter (01509 829 495, www.lros.org.uk )
