An­other ‘in­vader’, with large num­bers ir­rupt­ing from the Con­ti­nent and UK breed­ing grounds some years. Forms noisy fam­ily groups, or oc­ca­sion­ally larger flocks, and usually seen fly­ing from the top of one conifer to an­other, in search of the seed cones they feed from. Males are a dis­tinc­tive brick-red.
