Another ‘invader’, with large numbers irrupting from the Continent and UK breeding grounds some years. Forms noisy family groups, or occasional­ly larger flocks, and usually seen flying from the top of one conifer to another, in search of the seed cones they feed from. Males are a distinctiv­e brick-red.
