Red-necked Grebe

-

Found along the east and south coasts of Britain in winter, or on its way to and from them, it has a thicker neck and a more compact profile than the much commoner Great Crested Grebe, and a short, stout bill with a yellow base and dark tip. The smaller Slavonian Grebe is also found here in winter, particularly around northern coasts and estuaries.
