WAYMARKERS
1The walk starts at the north-eastern end of the tidal road before heading north to join part of the Avon Estuary circular walk, which includes the curiouslynamed green lane, Drunkards’ Hill. Listen for Buzzard mewing overhead and Grey Wagtail near the water.
2The lane leading through Foxhole towards Bigbury is likely to yield Goldfinch, Yellowhammer, Blue and Great Tit among other garden species.
Field and woodland paths lead back towards the Avon Estuary. Look for woodpeckers.
3 4Descending to the estuary, the views are superb. Listen for Oystercatcher and Curlew on the water below. Once at mudflat level there is much to see, including Greenshank, Little Egret, Grey Heron, Shelduck, Sanderling, Dunlin and Ringed Plover.
