Bird Watching (UK)

Can you confirm that I’ve identified this bird

-

QIs this a Lapland Bunting? I saw it feeding on the shingle beach at Dingle Marsh, Dunwich, when I was there in November. Geoff Gramlick

AIt is indeed, a winter male, we think. You can make out the two white wing-bars, and the black lines ‘framing’ the pale, ‘open’ ear coverts. It is difficult, though, to make out the long, straight hindclaw that gives it its American name of Lapland Longspur. It’s a scarce autumn and winter visitor to the UK, and is typically found singly or in small groups along the coast.
