Bird Watching (UK)

KEY POINTS

-

1 The mouth of Fingal’s Cave is a good place to stand and watch the wildlife. Some birds nest inside the cave. 2 The boat trip over can be very rewarding, not just for sea ducks and auks but also marine mammals, which are often seen. Look out for the Basking Sharks and White-tailed Eagles around the west coast of Mull.

3 Puffins nest below the brow of the cliff path and fly into their burrows directly in front of you. It’s interesting how the gulls which are waiting for them disappear when humans turn up. It’s worth looking behind you for the smaller birds in the grasses. Check the beaches for waders at low tide.

4 The western edge of Staffa looks straight out over the Atlantic. Gannets and Divers can be seen with the occasional Great Skua following them. On windy days, keep an eye out for Manx Shearwaters.
