1 Woodland and scrub near the car park should yield singing Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat, Willow and Garden Warblers and a chance of Turtle Dove. Linnet, Yellowhammer and Bullfinch breed among a range of common tits, finches and thrushes. Check the old chalk pit for passage Ring Ouzel, Redstart and Whinchat. Scan for overhead visible migration of hirundines, Swift, wagtails and pipits. A good spot for raptors moving along the scarp slope.

2 The woodland harbours migrant Blackcap and Chiffchaff, alongside a range of resident species including Sparrowhawk, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Jay, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Marsh Tit, Goldcrest and maybe Firecrest. Woodcock and Tawny Owl are active at dusk.

3 The woodland edge is a good area for hunting Hobby, Red Kite and Buzzard. Open farmland should have a few singing Sky Lark, Meadow Pipit, Linnet, Whitethroat and Yellowhammer, plus partridges, Stock Dove and Little Owl in hedgerow trees.

4 An alternative viewpoint across the woodland canopy for watching soaring birds of prey on a sunny day and observing early morning visible migration.
