Bird Watching (UK)

KEEN WOMENS TERRADORA WATERPROOF £99.99

- REVIEWED BY KATIE WILKINSON

Although style and appearance may not be the primary thought or the number one priority when buying shoes to wear when birdwatching, it’s nice to enjoy what you’re wearing on your feet and great if you can wear the same pair of shoes for a day outdoors watching wildlife and then for a cheeky trip to the pub afterwards. These shoes can be just as successfully paired with a pair of jeans as with outdoor gear, as they are more similar in style to a fashionable training shoe, rather than a stocky hiking boot. They come in a variety of colours, including subdued blues, greens and greys, ideal for the stealthy birdwatcher or someone who wishes to wear a coordinated outfit whatever the situation. The shoes are quite sleek and slimline in comparison to other practical outdoor footwear and suitable for a quicker pace if you wanted. They are lace ups, so can be made wider for comfort if needed. I found the shoes to be very comfortable in the field; the soles are cushioned and bouncy which would also provide extra support if walking downhill and are suited to off road terrain. They boast a breathable mesh lining which seemed to do the job as my feet remained a pleasant temperature, even in my thick walking socks. I couldn’t recommend these shoes for more adventurous birdwatchers who trek through thick mud, but they do have a waterproof lining, so are suitable for puddles and spring showers while still having grip as the soles are very flexible and have decent sized lugs on the bottom. I shall definitely be wearing them again, now spring is here!
