JERSEY:

Grouville Bay recorded a Swallow, six Black Redstarts, tens of Pied and White Wagtails, 10 Rock Pipits, 50 Red-breasted Mergansers, tens of Great Crested, Slavonian and Black-necked Grebes and 710 Brent Geese. The Wetlands Centre held 20 Marsh Harriers 100 Great Black-backed Gulls, 14 Wigeon, a Goosander, two Penduline Tits, Bearded Tits, a Bittern, 65 Shovelers, 150 Snipe, a Jack Snipe, Water Pipits, Firecrests, Woodcocks, hundreds of Chiffchaff­s, Kingfisher­s, a Black-tailed Godwit and 50 Lapwings. Grouville Marsh held tens of Grey Herons, a few Wigeon and hundreds of Snipe. A Red Kite was at St John (27th) and The Elms (28th). Buzzards were widespread. Long-eared Owls were seen in Grouville. A Little Bunting was ringed (28th). The regular Spoonbill normally roosted on Icho Tower, but on high tides moved to La Rocque, with 50 Grey Herons, 16 Cattle Egrets, 80 Little Egrets and 150 Curlews. Thousands of Herring Gulls and Black-headed Gulls, and 50 Mediterran­ean Gulls fed at Les Varines before roosting near Icho Tower. La Rocque recorded hundreds of Red-throated Divers, record numbers of Great Northern Divers, hundreds of Razorbills and a few Guillemots. The Diroulles reef held seven Purple Sandpipers. Saint Catherine’s breakwater logged a Smew and Eiders (16th).
