WHERE TO SEE THEM?
They frequent open woods, copses, parkland, gardens and orchards. Look for them at tops of trees, where they search for food such as larvae and insects. Mainly limited to the south in the UK, particularly the south-east of England.
They don’t breed in Scotland or on islands, although they are found on the Channel Islands. They are absent from Ireland. Extremely local in Yorkshire, rare in Lancashire. Occasionally seen in Wales, though not in the far west.
