Bird Watching (UK)

KEY POINTS

-

1 Park in the car park at the Bowlees visitor centre. A quick look in the quarry may give you several orchids and even a Kestrel.

2 Walk via the centre and down to the road crossing straight across check the fields for waders, wagtails and flora.

3 Check the woodland for nesting spring migrants and walk to the view point to see the ‘Lower Force’. Look out for water birds here if the canoes are not in action! Walk upstream along the path. Turning left to return but another kilometre is High Force.

4 Check the fields for breeding waders by listening to the calls of the adults. Check the bushes for singing buntings and finches. Look for outcrops of rock for Ring Ouzels and Wheatears or even the odd Black Grouse.

5 Walk back on this higher path viewing the rich flora with some fields full of Butterfly and Frog orchids. More breeding waders are likely. Check the stone walls for perched waders, wagtails and pipits.
