KEY POINTS
1From Streetly Gate, explore the heathland around Little Bracebridge for possible breeding Tree Pipits, but remember Meadow Pipits are common here. Woodland edges have roding Woodcock. Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers are here, and the diminutive Lesser Spotted Woodpecker may still hang on in the area.
2The heath and small copse around the Jamboree Memorial stone hold finch flocks with large numbers of Chaffinch being joined by Bramblings in good years. Large numbers of Siskin, redpoll and occasionally Crossbills are also seen.
3In Longmoor Valley listen for Cuckoo, reeling Grasshopper Warbler, Willow Warbler and singing Stonechat and Reed Bunting.
Great habitat for shrikes with both Woodchat and Great Grey Shrikes recorded here. Good habitat for Dartford Warbler.
Jack Snipe and Snipe overwinter near Longmoor Pool, together with small numbers of commoner ducks.
5Powells Pool for scarce ducks. Long-tailed Duck, Common Scoter, Slavonian Grebe and Great Northern Diver have occurred.
6Woodlands hold breeding woodpeckers, Goldcrest, Coal Tit, Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Chiffchaff, Jay, Sparrowhawk and Buzzard. Firecrests have been seen.
7Blackroot Pool holds small numbers of ducks, with Mandarin sometimes present. Little Egrets visit from time to time.
