Bird Watching (UK)

CJ Wildlife

-

With a team of nearly 200 people and a network of more than 20 wildlife conservation partners throughout Europe, CJ Wildlife are the market leaders in the design and development of wildlife care products and have played an important role in the growth of the bird food market over the past 30 years. UK households now spend around £297 million a year caring for their feathered friends, and as a result we attract over 80 wild bird species into our gardens compared to just 18 back in the late 80s. Established in 1987 by passionate ornithologist and agricultural expert Chris Whittles, who researched the benefits of supplementary feeding for garden birds, the company started developing and testing seed mixes on their farm in Shropshire. This resulted in an innovative new range of specialist foods being bought to market with the now widely accepted message that feeding high quality supplementary foods helps support wild birds all year round. By raising awareness of the struggles of Britain’s wildlife, and the positive impact households could have by feeding high quality bird foods that help supplement their natural diet, the demand for more variety of foods and ways to feed increased throughout the 90s. In response to this demand, and an extensive research and food development programme by their ornithologists, CJS were the first specialist to develop and offer bird foods which now appear on most garden menus - including high energy

foods, no mess mixes, kibbled peanuts, black sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts, nyjer seeds, peanut cakes and, more recently, specialist Peanut Butter for Birds. However, CJ Wildlife are much more than a supplier of bird food and this is where they differ from other suppliers. They combine knowledge and experience to ensure their work makes a significant and recognisable contribution to wildlife conservation and this starts with their products – they only supply the very best quality food for wildlife, and whilst this means they are not the cheapest supplier, the lack of waste means customers can be sure they are getting the best value-formoney when it comes to caring for their feathered friends. The business also works with a wide network of charity and wildlife organisations to ensure they are at the forefront of conservation efforts to help protect Britain’s wildlife. As well as working together to develop innovative new solutions to help our most at-risk species, CJS also collaborates with partners to educate the public and raise awareness of how everyone can make a positive difference, with a particular focus on reaching younger audiences and inspiring the wildlife champions of the future.
