Struggle for heart and soul of party
DEAR Editor, Deputy Labour leader Tom Watson is spot on when he describes some of those individuals in “Momentum”, the proJeremy Corbyn pressure group, as “hard-left Trotskyist entryists” intent on shoring up support for Corbyn by infiltrating the Labour Party and “manipulating new members”, particularly the young.
Trotskyist groups like the Socialist Party of England (formerly known as Militant Tendency) are succeeding in infiltrating the Labour Party through Momentum.
The Trade Unionist And Socialist Coalition and the Socialist Workers Party, a separate hard-left group cooperating and supporting Momentum, are all busy as bees to get comrade Corbyn re-elected as Labour leader.
What happens following Corbyn’s crowning? The hard-left will already be planning the purging of “moderate” Labour MPs.
The hard-left won’t be content with control of the NEC and the removal of the general secretary, next will be the culling of the Labour Party directors and regional directors. Then comes the hijacking of the constituencies and the deselection of so-called moderate MPs.
The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership is unelectable and is on the road to political oblivion. Once the hard-left get a grip on the Labour Party machinery it will be a devil of a job to wrestle back control.
The country needs a strong and effective opposition to hold this Tory government to account and to stand up for the millions of its citizens who want their voice to be heard.
The struggle for the heart and soul of the Labour Party must now begin in earnest. It will be a long, hard and bitter struggle but it can and must be won. Peter Henrick, Northfield, Birmingham
