Togetherness the winner in long run for Lion boss

- Tamlyn Jones Business Reporter

MORE than 300 runners have now signed up to take part in the Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge.

The 2016 Great Birmingham Run half marathon takes place on October 16 and is one of the biggest events in the city’s sports calendar, with around 20,000 runners expected to hit the streets.

The event’s Business Challenge pits companies against each other to see which teams can record the fastest times to win trophies.

Any business entering 12 or more runners automatically gets a trophy in the name of the company’s fastest finisher and all businesses feature in a special-edition magazine.

Companies already signed up for this year’s Great Birmingham Run include ATSG Compliance, Charter Court Financial Services, Delcam and Birmingham-based picture framing suppliers Lion Picture Framing Supplies, which has a team of 12 runners.

Managing director Nicola Harrold is leading Lion’s team and will be joined by runners from all divisions of the company.

She said: “I’m not sure if we’ll win a Business Challenge trophy but that wasn’t the main motivation for doing this.

“It’s more about doing something together and to bring people together from different parts of the business.”

Entries are still open for the Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge, which is being supported by the Birmingham Post, at www.greatrun.org/great-birmingham-run/ business-challenge.

Business Challenge teams must be a minimum of four people and a maximum of eight but companies can enter as many teams as they want in male, female or mixed-sex categories.

Mixed teams must have a minimum of two men and two women.

Team members must be 16 years of age or over on race day and plac- ings are based on the accumulated first four finishing times in each team.

There are categories for small (up to 50 staff ), medium (50 - 249 staff ) and large companies (250+ staff ).

Teams already signed up for the 2016 Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge: ATSG Compliance, Charter Court Financial Services, Davies Group, Delcam, Highways England, HSBC, JW Hinks LLP, KPMG, Lambert Smith Hampton, Lion Picture Framing, Mainstay Residential, Mazars LLP, Peers Hardy UK, Sigma Components, Squire Patton Boggs, Tata Motors European Tech Centre, West Brom Building Society.
