Midfielder Davis enjoying his new freedom to roam

-

BIRMINGHAM City midfielder David Davis is loving his licence to thrill.

Davis doubled his tally for the season with the opening goal in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Norwich at St Andrew’s.

It came after manager Gary Rowett shifted him to an inside-right role against the Canaries.

The clinical lowed his goal header in the foldraw against month.

“It was a bit Alan Sheareresque,” joked Davis about his latest goal. “I’m not really a good header of the ball, but it was nice to be in the right area.

“I just saw it come to me and thought, ‘Just try and get my head on it’, luckily it went in.”

Davis is revelling in his new role after being given more Wigan earlier this freedom to get forward.

“I’m just enjoying playing,” he said. “I think the gaffer changed it up a bit, he told me to try and take advantage of Robbie Brady and help Jonathan Spector as he bombs on. It’s a bit more free rather than being controlled in the middle.

“It just gave me the licence to get in the back stick and obviously with Jacques Mag- homa being an out-and-out winger, he’s going to get a lot of crosses in.

“But, to be honest, as long as I’m playing and getting in the right areas I don’t mind.

“Oh, and being top goalscorer isn’t a bad thing.”

The comprehensive victory over Norwich has lifted Blues up to tenth in the division on eight points, a point off third place.
