Preacher avoids jail for abusing passer-by

-

AN Islamic preacher who labelled a Muslim woman “Satan” and a “slut” for wearing tightfitting trousers in a city centre rant has escaped a prison sentence.

Krissoni Henderson, from Brook Street, Hockley, was handed a 24-month community sentence, which will address his anger issues, and a six-month curfew order.

It follows the rant on July 4 this year in Birmingham’s New Street.

The 31-year-old was convicted of causing threatening and abusive behaviour which was racially aggravated.

Mr Shahzad Imam, prosecuting, said the woman who was verbally targeted by Henderson felt terrorised because he had threatened to follow her home and “blow her up.”

Mr Peter Ricketts, defending, said married Henderson suffered from bipolar disorder and received medication.

Mr Michael Somers, chairman of the bench, told Henderson his actions could have “incited violence.” He told Henderson he would have to follow a strict curfew to be at his home address between 7pm and 7am.

He was also told to pay his victim of £200 and court costs of £400.

As he left the court Henderson said: “I am innocent if what they said I have done. I am going to change my life and be a good father and good husband.”

On the steps of the magistrates court as he left he told the Birmingham Post his preaching days were over. He exclaimed: “I am a good man. I am a peaceful man.”
