City’s Convention Centre gets £1.8m revamp

-

THE second phase of a multimillionpound refurbishment programme at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham has been completed.

Owner NEC Group has spent around £1.8 million over the past few months at the Broad Street conference and event venue where halls four, nine and ten and four executive meeting rooms have been refurbished.

New large format digital screens and portable screens have been added and the ICC said there had been investment in upgrading the wi-fi along with modernisation of the lighting in the mall, registration and foyer areas.

The wider £10 million refurbishment programme has already seen facelift work in the main hall three, registration area and mall which took place last year.

The next stage of the refurbishment will be completed in 2017, focused on additional halls and executive meeting rooms as bility allows.

Director of event services Allan Boyle said: “As we celebrate our 25th birthday this year, we felt it was time change the physical look and feel of our spaces to create an even better experience for our customers.

“The digitisation has opened up the mall from an activity point of view, allowing clients to promote their events, and the wi-fi enhancements were extremely important for availa- delegates to have a positive conference experience. In terms of the look, we wanted to ensure the spaces felt modern and contemporary without losing the ICC’s personality.

“We are not just looking at halls or rooms individually but as whole spaces that our clients use seamlessly throughout their event experience.

“We are determined to keep raising the bar and much of the refurbishment programme is in response to feedback.”
