Trojan Horse teachers back in class

- Neil Elkes Local Government Correspondent

RINGLEADERS of the infamous Trojan Horse plot in Birmingham schools are teaching youngsters again despite being banned, it has been reported.

Former Park View chairman of governors Tahir Alam and Razwan Farwaz, the former deputy head of Nansen Primary School, are teaching informal classes to youngsters, some in Sparkbrook.

The pair were at the centre of the Trojan Horse scandal, described as a co-ordinated plot to introduce an ‘intolerant and aggressive Islamic ethos’.

The plot was alleged to have included the segregation of boys and girls, cutting subjects such as evolution from the curriculum and bullying secular teachers and heads who did not implement demands.

Mr Farwaz was a member of a notorious WhatsApp social media group who shared bigoted messages branding gays as ‘animals’ and demeaning women, saying their place was in the kitchen.

Mr Alam is said to be teaching children in informal classes at the Khidmat Centre, in Sparkbrook, while Mr Faraz was found running classes in Halifax, West Yorkshire, earlier this month. Both men are fighting against bans from teaching.

Approached about his return to teaching, Mr Alam said: “I am absolutely suitable for teaching any children. I have done absolutely nothing wrong.”

The ban from teaching only covers institutions overseen by the Department for Education and does not apply to informal classes, but Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood believes it should.

He said: “It is just wrong a key figure in Trojan Horse should have any role in education.”
