Phillips: We should have tamed the Tigers after taking lead

-

MATT Phillips felt West Bromwich Albion should have taken three points from their winning position at Hull.

The Baggies took the lead after Phillips’ corner found Gareth McAuley, but the Tigers battled back in the second half and Michael Dawson levelled, ensuring the two sides shared the spoils.

It would have been three wins in a row for Albion, ahead of their meeting with Watford at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

“Yeah, I think it was an opportunity missed,” Phillips conceded.

“We created enough chances to win the game. We’re disappointed.

“A point keeps the run going. We’re undefeated in three now, we’ll look to build again next week against Watford.

“There’s no easy games in the Premier League. We look to go back home and keep the run going.

“If other teams underesti- mate us we can show what a good side we are. We do play good football.

“We’re a good side, we work every day on possession of the ball, moving it and passing through the pitch and it’s starting to show.”

Scotland international Phillips has begun to showcase his own abilities in recent weeks.

After scoring and assisting James Morrison in the victory at Leicester, he opened the scoring again against Burnley and set up Darren Fletcher for Albion’s third. His third assist in three games came when he delivered for McAuley’s fourth goal of the campaign.

“We’re very strong from set-pieces. It’s my job to get the ball in there and just let him (McAuley) finish it,’’ added Phillips.

“It was a bit of a slow start (for Phillips himself ) but in recent games I’ve added a couple of goals, and that’s what I’ve got to do. I’ve just got to do it consistently.”
