£1m office space aims to attract start-ups

-

A NEW office for start-up businesses will be launched in Birmingham following a £1 million investment.

Property company Commercial Estates Group (CEG) is carrying out the work in Alpha Tower to create ‘Alpha Works’, a 14,000 sq ft collaborative office space in the city centre building aimed at smaller businesses and start-ups.

The new space on the 21st and 22nd floors will be designed by architecture practice ORMS and is due to launch in March and have hot desks and private offices.

Alpha Tower, off Broad Street, was acquired by Anglo Scandinavian Estates Group in 2014, since when it has been carrying out a £15 million renovation programme.

It now has a new reception, independent café and cycle and shower facilities.

Recent new tenants include Lombard Risk Management, Probrand and Galliford Try.

Lawrence Escott, investment manager at CEG which is leading the revamp on behalf of the owner, said: “CEG is very excited to bring a new workspace to the Birmingham market.

“The city’s start-up scene is booming and leading the way in innovation and we are looking to help foster and promote this culture with the help of Alpha Works.

“We are investing in a creative environment that allows smaller occupiers access to the fantastic facilities of Alpha and the unrivalled city views. We saw a clear need to create a flexible, unique, welldesigned and competitive space, one that is not only located in a place that inspire and nurtures creativity but one that provides the space to work with and alongside other likeminded people to share ideas and collaborate.”
