Legoland reveals plans for attraction in city centre
A 4D cinema, rides and games are among the attractions on the cards for a new Legoland centre set to be developed in the heart of Birmingham.
Proposals have been submitted to the city council for a new Legoland Discovery Centre at the Barclaycard Arena.
The proposals will see the existing car park at the venue halved, with the loss of 140 spaces from the basement area to accommodate the attraction.
It will also take up existing shop space which was developed as part of Barclaycard’s sponsorship deal with the National Indoor Arena but has never been used.
The attraction is expected to create 30 full-time and ten part-time jobs and will be open from 10am to 6pm, seven days a week, therefore unlikely to impact on the other events at the Barclaycard Arena which tend to be in the evenings.
Legoland Discovery Centre is owned by Merlin Entertainments, the listed group behind the Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire and Sea Life centre which has a venue in Brindleyplace close to the arena.
It runs around 115 attractions worldwide.
There is only one other Legoland Discovery Centre in the UK – which opened at the Trafford Centre in Greater Manchester in 2010 – alongside a Legoland Resort in Windsor and other venues across the world.
