EasyHotel opens in old nightclub

-

A HOTEL is to open on the site of a city nightclub destroyed by fire a decade ago.

The city’s first EasyHotel is opening this week above Turtle Bay restaurant in John Bright Street.

The £4.5 million, 84-bedroom facility has seen a major revamp of the old building which was the Edwards No.8 nightclub before it was destroyed in a fire in 2006.

The façade and outer walls of the building were retained and the interior later rebuilt.

From this week, visitors will be able to stay in the hotel with prices starting at £20 per night.

Guy Parsons, chief executive of EasyHotel, said the company wanted to capitalise on improvements to the city centre, particularly the nearby New Street Station and Grand Central shopping Centre.

He said: “We are delighted to be investing in the UK’s second largest city.

“Along with its six universities and internationally reputed arts scene, Birmingham is also the UK’s fourth largest tourist destination, with 34 million visitors in 2014. We see significant opportunity for EasyHotel to service business customers and leisure visitors to Birmingham’s lively events programmes and look forward to building our brand presence in the city.

“In line with the strategy, the current financial year to date has seen an acceleration in both the owned and franchised hotel development pipelines as the company continues to establish itself as the leading branded super budget chain.”
