Restaurant to launch new deli spin-off

-

AN ITALIAN restaurant is branching out after its owners set their hearts on opening a new delicatessen.

Sapori di Sole will open at 25 St Mary’s Row, in Moseley, in what was Indigo Wholefoods, on February 25.

The shop is a spin-off from Byzantium, a Mediterranean tapas restaurant in York Road, Kings Heath.

Efua Turco, who runs the business with her Italian husband Antonello, said: “We’ll be selling deli staples such as extra virgin olive oils, Italian cheeses and chutneys, plus artisan chocolates, pastries, gelato and homemade Italian food.

“Antonello is from Puglia and has strong connections with artisan producers in that area.

“It will be mainly a retail shop, with food to buy and take away, but there will be a couple of stools at the counter for people who want to grab a quick bite.

“For example, we’ll be making sourdough sandwiches and Paposcia, which is pronounced papposha and is a type of pizza.

“We have had a dream of opening a deli for a long time, and always planned to open in Moseley.

“With the Farmers’ Market and lots of restaurants, there’s a great interest in food there, and we will sell the kind of produce that people who love food will be delighted by.

“We will sell interesting food with a history, such as olive oil from trees that date back 2,000 years.”
