Top London restaurant to open in Second City

-

THE group behind the world famous Ivy restaurant in London has announced plans to open one in Birmingham.

The original Ivy in London’s West End has long established itself as a celebrity haunt for the likes of Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Tom Cruise, and David and Victoria Beckham, who have all dined there. An Ivy spokesman told the

“We can confirm that we are looking at sites in Birmingham with a view to opening a new restaurant in the city but we cannot share any more information at this time.”

The restaurant, which was founded in the heart of London’s theatre land in 1917, is owned by the Ivy Collection which has expanded with four other businesses in London under the name The Ivy Grills and Brasseries as well as one in Bristol.

The new Ivy Grill and Brasserie Birmingham will offer “extensive all-day menus featuring the best of modern British dishes in a relaxed atmosphere”. Birmingham diners can also expect “more than a few classic favourites to both eat and drink that nod to the Ivy heritage”.

The Ivy is famous for its signature comfort food dishes such as its shepherd’s pie, shunning the Michelin-star type of cooking which has become prevalent in recent years.

In December, The Ivy celebrated its 100th birthday, hosting an intimate set from pop singer Kylie Minogue for guests including Ronnie Wood, Liz Hurley, Alan Carr and actress Kristen Scott.

The restaurant group also owns acclaimed J Sheekey’s and Scotts in the West End as well as Le Caprice in Piccadilly.

And it is currently gearing up to open two new Ivy Grills and Brasseries in Kent and Buckinghamshire.
