Cocktail bar and pie shop on cards for Birmingham
A NEW pie restaurant and Cubanthemed bar are set to open in the heart of Birmingham’s business district.
Plans have been unveiled by award-winning chain Pieminister to launch a new venue in Waterloo Street in the same building as Michelin-starred restaurant Adams.
Pieminister was started in Bristol in 2003 and runs a chain of restaurants and smaller pie and mash cafés.
The new venue, in New Oxford House, is expected to be a restaurant, opening throughout the day until up to 1am and capable of seating 60 people while creating 20 new full- and part-time jobs.
The firm’s only other venue in the West Midlands is a café in Stoke-onTrent.
The second new night spot will be a Revolución de Cuba, sister venue to the popular Revolution chain of bars which is also opening later this year in Solihull and has a base in Broad Street.
It is planning to launch its first West Midlands venue at 8 Temple Street in a building previously used by Birmingham Law Society Library and which is currently home to parcel collection firm DX which will relocate. The group is planning to renovate and refurbish the entire building.
The chain specialises in “authentic Cuban food and drink” as well as exotic cocktails and it also has its own Cuban Bartender’s Club.
Customers will also be to attend cocktail masterclasses complete with tasting pinchos snacks and a Cuban buffet.
Both companies have lodged applications with Birmingham City Council to convert the premises and are likely to open well before the end of 2017 if they get the go-ahead.
A submitted report in support of the Revolución de Cuba application said: “The library premises has been subject to significant vacancy in recent years and is currently underused, detracting from the character of the wider area.
“The proposed works will transform the appearance of the building, refreshing and restoring its tired appearance and replacing the current shop front with one of a more traditional appearance.”
