Boy, 7, shames builder after work ‘abandoned’ Persimmon finally agrees to clear up mess after child’s letter

ASEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy has taken on a gigantic housebuilders – claiming they deserted his new estate and left it “a pig sty”.

Schoolboy Archie Wilson branded Persimmon Homes “disgraceful” after they left his estate in Shirley, Solihull, without completing the park, lighting, pavements or roads.

Archie and his family moved on to the development in September 2015 with promises that work would be completed the following spring but builders abandoned the site soon after.

Now, after several attempts by residents to get the work finished, Archie has finally taken matters into his own hands and penned a letter to the multi-national company to demand answers.

He wrote: “This building site is DISGRACEFUL! When I moved to Berry Maud Lane, I felt happy and excited to be moving here.

“Now I feel sad and disappointed because the landscape is horrible.

“When I moved here, you promised us a park area with lots of fun things to do.

“But all we have is a horrible mess because there is no grass, lots of rubbish and barb wire on the park outer trees. The path still has no tarmac as well as the roads.

“The bins in the park have not been emptied and my Mommy has had to tidy them up.

“When are you going to fix these problems?”

Cllr Brian Holmes, for Shirley West, told the Post that he had arranged a site visit with residents, developers and Solihull Council as far back as autumn 2016 to flag up the problems.

Cllr Holmes explained that a further meeting took place between parties, but he was now aware that the situation still had not been resolved.

Archie’s mother Louise, 37, said: “Archie has had enough. He has taken matters into his own hands and decided to write a letter.

“We’ve contacted the company many times, and even got councillors involved, but it’s currently at a standstill.

“All the builders have left the site and it’s just been abandoned.

“The park was supposed to be finished, as well as the roads and lights.

“But it just looks like a pig sty. All the residents are worried that travellers might move onto the site as it’s not secured.

“Archie, like everyone else, is fed up. Hopefully it will make them buck their ideas up finally.”

Post on Friday Persimmon Homes confirmed that work on the estate will resume this week.

A spokesman for Persimmon Home Central said: “We can confirm that work by Persimmon Homes and fellow developers to the entrance at The Acorns has been carried out this week and that work on the park, footpaths and roads is due to begin on Monday.

“We have been working hard with external contractors to resolve the matter and have this week written to the family to outline the timetable of work.”
