I’m totally p****d off, admits boss

-

GIANFRANCO Zola admitted his Birmingham City future is in the balance and declared himself ‘p****d off ’ following Tuesday’s terrible defeat to Wigan.

The Blues manager watched his side slip to a sixth home defeat in eight Championship matches as Dan Burn headed in the only goal of the game.

And speaking afterwards Zola admitted he bore ultimate responsibility for what had been a dire performance.

“I have got a lot of anger inside,” he said.

“I hope the players have the same because we need to perform better. If we want to play for this club we need to be better.

“This club is not going to wait for me, it’s not going to wait for the players if they don’t want to stand up to the situation.

“We need to change, otherwise they are going to change us.

“If some of the supporters feel the manager needs to change I understand that. I totally understand that.

“They are staying behind us, they are staying behind me and so far I haven’t given them what I promised to give them.

“I feel sorry for that because to be honest they have always been very supportive.

“I can only be appreciative to them considering the situation and I feel we have to give something more than we do.

“I am p****d off with everybody. I cannot point the finger at one player, a lot of players didn’t play to their standard.”

However, when asked if he would consider standing down Zola said that was something he didn’t want to think about while emotions are running high.

“It’s too early to say something like that, I don’t want to consider it now,” he said. “I am too disappointed and angry and I need to analyse the situation and see.”

Despite the defeat, Blues remain in 17th place, although their points buffer on the bottom three was cut to eight.

Blues face a testing trip to Cardiff City on Saturday, before facing league leaders Newcastle on March 18.
