Kane’s living dream with pro contract
SIGNING a first professional contract was a “dream come true” for Albion academy product Kane Wilson.
Wilson penned a new deal on Monday, which keeps him with the Baggies until the summer of 2019, just two days after his 17th birthday and was eligible to turn pro.
And the versatile defender, who made his senior debut in the EFL Cup at Northampton in August, has already pinpointed his next personal target.
“I’d love to make my Premier League debut for the Albion,” said Wilson.
“I’ve had a good season so far and playing in the Premier League would be the next target to tick off.
“It’s been a whirlwind of a season, if I am being totally honest. At the start of the year I could never have imagined it would have gone so well.
“I went to Austria and Holland (pre-season) with the senior squad and then I made my debut at Northampton.
“They say everything happens for a reason and I’m hoping signing this contract is the next step to becoming an established Premier League player.
“It’s a dream come true for my family and I.
“When I was seven and I joined the academy my goal was to become a professional footballer and I am delighted to have a signed my first professional contract here.”
Fellow academy graduates Jonathan Leko, Sam Field and Tyler Roberts were all handed Premier League debuts by Tony Pulis last season.
And Wilson believes he and other youngsters at the club can use that as an incentive.
“We all want to become Premier League footballers so it’s good to see players being given the chances to show what they can do,’’ he said.
“The gaffer has been brilliant with me and he has shown me there is a pathway to the senior team if I work hard.”
