James refuses to give up on club’s 50-point target

ARECORD-BREAKING tally of 50 points remains a realistic aim for Albion, says James Morrison.

The Baggies have, in recent weeks, suffered a setback in their pursuit of a maiden half-century following defeats to Crystal Palace and Everton.

But Morrison, who has seen it all in nearly ten eventful years at The Hawthorns, feels the milestone is still very much within reach.

“It will be difficult, but it’s reachable,” he said. “We’ve got to stick together, work on stuff, put things right, and we’ve got the players to do it.”

The games don’t get any easier either with Arsenal and Manchester United next up.

“We knew that after the run of games we had there was going to be a difficult spell,” added Morrison, who has been called up to the Scotland squad for the games against Canada and Slovenia later this month.

“I believe in seasons you go through that.

“We went through a stage of winning and over the course of the season you go through tough patches.

“It’s up to us now to stick together and come out on top.”

Further over the horizon are games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City as the Baggies tackle five of the top six during the run-in. “They’ve got good players, haven’t they?” added Morrison. “They’ve spent fortunes, we’ve had 16 senior players all season. “If you just look at the games each week, it’s fine margins. “Take one chance and you’re flying really, but if you don’t you get punished. “Similar to the Bournemou th g am e when we got that victory. They were fully in the game, we scored one of the corners and won 2-1, even though they had the majority of the game.”

Morrison was left out of the starting line-up by Tony Pulis for the game at Everton last weekend.

Despite a run of good form, with three goals in his last nine Premier League appearances, Morrison accepted and understood the manager’s decision.

“He doesn’t need to explain,” the 30-year-old said. “It’s a squad game.

“I’m old enough and wise enough now to know it’s for the good of the team and his decision.

“We didn’t really have any chances so it was a hard one to take.

“Obviously the scoreline suggests that.”
