MPs slam decision to deny major institutes right to teach next generation of apprentices
Agovernment decision to leave three major city colleges off an official list of apprenticeship providers will “destroy technical education for 16-year-olds in the West midland”, mPs claim.
A major row has erupted after the shock decision to snub Birmingham metropolitan College (Bmet), South & City College Birmingham and Solihull College. But Birmingham mPs said the government was failing to provide the Second City’s workforce with vital skills employers desperately need. The colleges reacted with shock. Speaking in the House of Commons, gisela Stuart (Lab, edgbaston) said: “Is the minister not aware that if he goes ahead with that decision, he will essentially be destroying technical education for 16-year-olds lands?”
