MPs slam decision to deny major institutes right to teach next generation of apprentice­s

Agovernmen­t decision to leave three major city colleges off an official list of apprentice­ship providers will “destroy technical education for 16-year-olds in the West midland”, mPs claim.

A major row has erupted after the shock decision to snub Birmingham metropolit­an College (Bmet), South & City College Birmingham and Solihull College. But Birmingham mPs said the government was failing to provide the Second City’s workforce with vital skills employers desperatel­y need. The colleges reacted with shock. Speaking in the House of Commons, gisela Stuart (Lab, edgbaston) said: “Is the minister not aware that if he goes ahead with that decision, he will essentiall­y be destroying technical education for 16-year-olds lands?”
