What about school fines for travellers?
DEAR Editor, This week my much-loved local park has been invaded by travellers, an inevitable happening when our cashstrapped council decided that the local Park Ranger would not be allowed to lock a barrier, protecting the car park every night!
I wait with trepidation to see the consequences of this illegal encampment and pity the nearby residents who will have to deal with the complete disregard of values these usurpers have.
There has been much discussion about parents taking their offspring out of school to take advantage of lower holiday costs and many have incurred fines for doing so. I must say that I personally support this policy. However, from my own observation I perceive that none of the children on traveller sites ever attend school!
Perhaps someone from the City Council’s Education Welfare Department could say how many prosecutions have been invoked against travellers for their failure to have their children attend conventional schooling?
