Care homes must be funded properly
DEAR Editor, Care homes in Birmingham have not had a fee increase for nine years in a row.
This is in stark comparison with other sectors including the councillors who have to decide increases in social care.
Providers and the system at large are on their knees and in need of long-term plans for looking after those in need of care, those in receipt of care and those at the front line providing the care.
Care homes are an essential part of the continuum of care. The better way to stem provider attrition and uphold care home quality is to ensure that they are funded appropriately and treated in parity with the NHS. Professor Martin Green Chief Executive, Care England
