Xia dismisses Premier links to ace Kodjia

-

VILLA owner Tony Xia has sent a clear ‘hands off ’ message to potential suitors after speculation surrounding the future of the club’s top scorer Jonathan Kodjia.

Premier League duo Stoke City and Everton are reportedly looking into the availability of Kodjia this summer.

The Ivorian arrived at Villa Park only last summer for £15 million and has been a success, netting 19 times, including eight in his last eight matches.

While links to top-flight clubs may be deemed inevitable, Dr Xia has moved to dismiss the rumours.

“No more rumours, we need stability and calmness in dressing room,” he tweeted.

“Don’t like either medias or agents’ trick/game for now.”

Bruce has already played down the idea of selling his top scorer.

The manager said: “There will be all sorts of questions thrown at us because Kodjia has had an outstanding season.”

Everton are braced for interest in their own top scorer, Romelu Lukaku, who himself has already hinted he’d be willing to join a bigger club.

The Potters signed Saido Berahino from Albion in the January transfer window for up to £15 million.

Meanwhile, Birkir Bjarnason could return to action with Villa before the end of the Championship season.

The 28-year-old midfielder is making good progress as he battles back from a knee injury sustained in the win at Rotherham on March 4.

Last Friday he returned to the practice pitches for the first time after a month on the sidelines and there’s a chance he could feature in the final games of the season.

“He’s out of the leg brace and I expect him to be fit before the end of the season,” said Bruce.

“He’s fine. He’s doing a bit of running and cycling now.”

Bjarnason has made eight appearances for Villa since joining from Swiss side Basel.
