HUNDREDS of Midland workers will be hoping to smash company targets of a different kind when they take on this weekend’s Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10K run.

Firms of all sizes will be competing for the fastest-time trophies – and allimportant bragging rights – in the Great Birmingham 10k PKF Cooper Parry Business Challenge.

Thirty teams featuring 400 runners of all abilities will take part, making this Sunday’s event the biggest to date.

Trophies will be handed out to winning businesses in different categories and any company that enters 12 employees will receive their own engraved plaque. The four fastest collective times by participants are added up for each team to pick the overall winners.

This year’s 10km run features the Commonwealth Games challenge, which is aiming to highlight Birmingham’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games, and almost 8,000 people are expected to take part in all.

Among the companies taking part in the challenge is Wolverhampton-based Charter Court Financial Services, which has amassed an impressive 50-strong running team.

Challenge sponsors, accountancy practice PKF Cooper Parry, will also have a team on the Jennens Road start line near Millennium Point after 21 of its staff agreed to join the team.

The PKF Cooper Parry team will be competing against the likes of Town Hall Symphony Hall, the BBC, commercial property agency CBRE, Vodafone and law firm St Philips Chambers.

Ade Cheatham, chief executive of PKF Cooper Parry, said: “As proud sponsor of this year’s Great Birmingham 10k Business Challenge we would like to wish all the teams taking part, including our own runners from PKF Cooper Parry, the very best of luck for the race on Sunday.

“Events such as this are fantastic for the city, bringing people together – both runners and spectators – in support of charity.

“We’re excited to be part of it and I’ll certainly be watching with a keen interest as to who crosses the finish line first.”

The 10k is accessible to all levels of ability, though many will be using it as preparation for the Great Birmingham Run half marathon or the inaugural Birmingham International Marathon in the city this October.
