Kieftenbeld backs Blues to beat drop
MAIKEL Kieftenbeld has backed Birmingham City to beat the drop, despite a run of ten games without a win.
But the industrious midfielder says they need to replicate the commitment and organisation evident in Sunday’s defeat at Aston Villa to make sure.
Disappointed by the result, Kieftenbeld was nevertheless buoyed by the organisation and energy on display at Villa Park in what was Harry Redknapp’s first game in charge.
And he believes a repeat performance at St Andrew’s on Saturday will have a different outcome.
“We need to go for a win Huddersfield,” he said.
“The way we worked on Sunday we against need to give the same effort next week and give us a really good chance to get the three points.
“Sunday was good, solid, we need to crack on and give our everything against Huddersfield again because there are two games left – and we are going to stay up.
“That’s why we are going to work really hard. Like last week, we trained really well. Everything was clear, short and sharp.
“We need to work hard on the training pitch again, see how Huddersfield play and work hard and get a plan. And we will beat them, I feel.”
Which would be a belated reward for the physical and emotional investment they made at Villa Park and a game which produced just two shots on target.
Unfortunately for Agbonlahor’s went Blues, Gabby in, while Che Adams spurned Blues’ ing.
“I think it was a real good, honest performance,” Kieftenbeld said.
“We were much more solid, especially in the second half. They almost didn’t have a shot on goal.
“It’s really frustrating we didn’t get a win or at least a point.
“We worked on it all week. It was clear to us what we had to do. We did what they asked and gave our everything. It wasn’t enough but I think we can keep going like this.
“We had that one chance. It’s about details and small chances. The way they scored was unbelievable. I am just really disappointed but, if I look back to it, we deserved more, for sure.”
