Lloyds shuts branch as demand falls

-

ANOTHER high street bank has closed a branch in Birmingham city centre.

Lloyds has shut its branch in Colmore Row as fewer customers use it. Accounts will be moved to the New Street branch.

A statement from the company said: “We made this difficult decision due to the changing ways customers choose to bank with us which has resulted in customers using it less often.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and have informed customers of the closest alternative branch which is in Temple Row.”

Lloyds has been carrying out a long-running review of its branch network and closed its bank in Kings Norton earlier this year.

It announced in April that it planned to close 100 branches nationally during 2017 with the loss of 212 jobs.

It still runs a large branch in New Street alongside others in the suburbs.

Lloyds said 88 per cent of its customers already used other branches than the one in Colmore Row where counter transactions had decreased by 32 per cent over the past year.
