Curzon Street is not oldest terminal
DEAR Editor, It is excellent news about the restoration of Curzon Street Station but, unfortunately, it is not the oldest terminus in the world.
The Liverpool and Manchester Railway predated the London and Birmingham one by a few years and Manchester’s Liverpool Road holds that record as it opened on September 15, 1830. There is no comparison, however, when considering the architectural merits of the two locations with the superb Philip Hardwick-designed station, a true gem.
