FORMER Birmingham City chief executive Panos Pavlakis has revealed his surprise at Harry Redknapp’s departure.

Pavlakis admitted he was shocked at the timing of the decision to sack the 70-yearold.

Redknapp was three games after window, during brought 13 new club, had closed.

And Pavlakis speculated that was an indication the decision to move on was based on fac- given just a transfer which he faces to the tors other than Championship.

“The anthem goes it’s ‘joys and sorrows’ so you expect everything from Blues,” he said.

“I have been there threeand-a-half years so I have seen things that surprised me a lot.

“Harry’s sacking was like ‘OK, all right, move to the next manager’.

“It was quite a surprise probably because it was just three months ago when we had these great three last games. results in the

“Harry was a hero, of course together with his backroom staff, they did a great job, they kept us up. Everybody was ‘hey, come on, get Harry, get Harry’.

“When you deal with any manager, it’s not only about wages and get the contract. It’s about moving forward.

“You have to sit down, you have to put the budget, you have to put all things together.

“So when you have everything on the paper after three or four months you don’t come back and say ‘oh, I didn’t get that, I didn’t get this’.

“For me – and having followed Blues in the whole preseason, the transfers and everything – it looks like there have been many complications.

“It looks like there have been many confusions and at the end I think that led to some misunderstanding.”

Pavlakis left Birmingham at the end of last season having helped steer the club away from the Carson Yeung era.
